Successful Writing Strategies for all Kinds of Learners: From Parts of Speech to the Research Paper - A Multisensory Approach to Written Expression

Participants learn multisensory strategies to teach written expression to students in elementary through post-secondary grades.  ASDEC instructors draw upon original content as well as methods developed by William Van Cleave and Judith Hochman, nationally recognized experts in teaching written expression.
 
Using highly interactive presentations that include practice and demonstrations, instructors teach multisensory methods to improve grammar, sentence construction, paragraph development, and essays (including the college essay).  Participants learn the following key elements of written expression: 

Techniques aligned to Common Core standards; i.e. supporting paragraphs with evidence, literary analysis
    • Technology and hands-on approaches to teaching written expression and organization of language
    • Grammar rules
    • Morphology lessons - i.e. using thesaurus to build vocabulary
    • Writing about informational text
    • Strategies for the college application essay
    • Editing, proofreading and revising techniques 
    • The Process Approach to the Writing
    • Suggested approaches to writing about literature
    • The Binder Approach to writing Research Papers
Internships available for those who complete the course!

Graduate credits available from Trinity University Washington for an additional fee
