Every day children and families struggle with the impact of dyslexia. Children suffer at school and question their abilities and intelligence, parents feel helpless, unable to help their children. You can make the difference by donating to ASDEC. Your support will help train a new generation of teachers and academic therapists specially attuned to these learning differences. |
The Claire and Hy Nissenbaum Scholarship Fund honors the Nissenbaums for their visionary support of educator training and advocacy. As the Founder of ASDEC, Claire has helped hundreds of students achieve academic success.
Your Donation of:
$3,000 will provide clinical therapy to a low-income elementary student AND clinical training for the therapy intern. By investing in the student, you will build that child's foundational reading skills so that he/she may return to school ready to learn and to succeed. By investing in the therapy intern, you help to continue Claire and Hy's vision to provide the highest quality dyslexia education for students most at risk of academic failure.
$1,000 will send low-income at risk middle and high school students who read below grade level to literacy camp. They will learn the critical literacy skills they did not receive in elementary school. For these students, this is often the last chance to catch up with their grade level peers so that they can graduate from high school and achieve their college and career goals.
$500 will train early childhood educators to screen and intervene children BEFORE they FAIL. These funds help early educators to deliver a "vaccine" to prevent reading failure through early identification and multisensory teaching designed to build the pre-reading skills essential to academic success.
All other amounts will help ASDEC continue to reach more struggling readers through outreach to public schools serving English language learners, low-income and multiply disabled students. Please contact questions@asdec.org if you have any questions.
